Where to Stay in Chania: My Top Hotel Picks

Update on 20/04/2026. Chania is one of my favorite places in Crete, but choosing where to stay is not as simple as picking the prettiest hotel.

Some hotels are perfect if you want to walk everywhere in the Old Town, others are better for beach time, and some only make sense if you have a car.

In this guide, I’ve put together the hotels I would actually look at for a stay in Chania, depending on the kind of trip you want to have.

Before You Book Your Stay in Chania

• You can fly to Chania, as it has an international airport located quite close to Chania town.

Best boutique and character hotels in Chania Old Town

1. Boutique Hotel Del Doge

This apartment is in the same complex as the food market, and as you can easily imagine, everything is super close!

It’s an excellent place to stay with a lovely sunroof and hot tub! An extra plus is the host, Manolis, who elevates the whole experience!

Note that there is public parking about 3 minutes walk from the apartment, which is nice to have, but it can be pretty packed during the high season. More information here!

2. Ambassadors Residence Boutique Hotel

There is not much to say about this luxurious hotel! It is a high-quality hotel with an excellent location and accommodating staff!

Especially the rooms which overlook the harbor have stunning views!

It is very clean -quite important, especially during this period!- and well decorated! More information here!

3. Casa Delfino Hotel & Spa

You might remember this hotel as it is on our list of the best historic hotels in Greece!

In the heart of Chania’s charming old town, there is Casa Delphino Hotel and Spa, which is an original 17th-century Venetian mansion. It’s a stunning Venetian building with unique decorations.

4. Monastery Estate Venetian Harbor – Chania Town

 

The Monastery Estate Venetian Harbor is located in a beautifully renovated hotel, conveniently located in the old town of Chania and it has easy access to the old Venetian Harbor and various sites and restaurants.

The design of the hotel is outstanding with little details that make this place great! 

The rooms are very spacious, nicely furnished and the pool and hammam are great. The rooftop access is ideal for relaxing. More Information Here!

5. Doge Traditional Hotel

The location is ideal for exploring Chania old town. The rooms are gorgeous, like an old castle, with a comfortable double bed with a fairytale sky and very clean!

6. Alcanea Boutique Hotel

What can be said about this hotel?!

It is situated at the end of the harbor, and it provides a sense of tranquility while you are close to the charming narrow little streets of the old town!

The decoration in the Venetian style is just superb, and from your rooms, you can enjoy the glorious view of the lighthouse!

The breakfast is terrific, and it is served in a beautiful place just in front of the sea! As this is historic from Venetian time, there are no elevators if you have any mobility issues. But the staff is super helpful, and they will assist you with that as well! More Information Here!

Best central hotels in Chania Town

These are perfect for travelers who want to stay central and walk around easily, but do not necessarily need a full boutique experience.

7. Hotel Off

Hotel Off is a good example of a place that feels calmer than its location suggests.

It is in the Old Town, but what guests remember most is the shaded courtyard, the breakfast, and the tasteful restoration rather than noise or foot traffic.

This is a good fit if you want a central stay with a little personality, but not necessarily the full harbor-front price tag. More information here!

8. Morfeas Hotel

I think Morfeas do not have this wow factor as above choises but it wins in practicality

It is is located in Chania Old Town and very close to the sea and major sightsLet me highlight here how clean this hotel is and some rooms with balconies add more charm and are worth requesting.

The trade-off is that rooms can be on the smaller side and, because of the protected Old Town setting, there is no lift. More information here!

9. Porto Veneziano Hotel 

If you want a classic harbor-view hotel that is easier to access by car than many Old Town properties, Porto Veneziano is one of the safest picks.

The strengh of this accomodation is the waterfront setting, breakfast, and the practical parking situation, which is genuinely useful in Chania.

It is less intimate than a tiny boutique hotel, but stronger on convenience and ease. More information here!

10. The48suites

The48suites is a smart choice for travelers who want to be in the center without having the buzz and the noise of the busy harbor.

It is situated into a traditional lane close to the old port, and it has spotlessly clean rooms, a warm and hands-on host, and a quieter feel than you might expect from the location. More information here!

Best apartments, suites, and self-catering stays in Chania

These are better for visitors who want more space, more privacy, or a more apartment-style stay.

11. Kores Boutique Houses

Kores Boutique Houses suits travelers who want more space and more independence without giving up the Old Town location.

The property stands out for its thoughtful interiors, outdoor space, and the kind of layout that works better for longer stays, small groups, or families than a standard hotel room.

12. Centro Urban Chania 

That’s a nice and practical apartment choice for visitors who want a central base. It is close to the old harbor and the central market area, accessible by car, and works particularly well for families or small groups because it includes multiple sleeping areas rather than just one compact studio layout.

13. Minaret Suites and Apartments

Minaret Suites and Apartments is a good compromise between apartment flexibility and boutique-hotel polish. It is in the Old Town close to restaurants and nightlife. It is a strong option if you want to be central and independent without ending up in a tired rental. More information!

14. Marias Studios

Maria’s Studios is one of the simpler options on the list, but it works because it does the basics well, which is always important.

It is well located within walking distance of the waterfront and restaurants. Personally I would say that this is a sensible pick for travelers who care more about a good base than about design or hotel-style extras.. More information here!

15. Brigitte house 

This is a lovely apartment with two bedrooms and a lounge – kitchen area. It is close to Koum Kapi and within walking distance of the Old Town.

Another useful advantage is the easier parking setup compared with many stays in the tight core of Old Chania. More information here!

Best beach hotels and seaside stays outside Chania Town

As I described in my post about our 8-day itinerary in Chania, the whole region is an absolute treasure of beautiful spots, beaches, and people. You can stay in any of the above hotels in Chania or stay outside closer to marvelous beaches or other beautiful towns like Paleochora, Falasarna, Loutro, etc. In that case, you can rent a car and explore the whole region!

Kalyves is a seaside village 20′ from Chania. It has a lovely sandy beach and restaurants if you want to relax during the day and visit picturesque Chania during the night.

16. Porto Kalyves – Kalyves

These apartments have a fantastic view of the sea, and you will enjoy your coffee or your breakfast looking at the deep blue!

Also, Ioanna and Panagiotis are fantastic hosts, which is always a big plus for me!

This is a better fit for a relaxed seaside stay than for people who want nightlife on the doorstep. More information here!

17. Monastery Estate Retreat – Sougia

This is one of the most distinctive stays on the whole list and works best as a retreat rather than a beach hotel in the classic sense.

It is set in the hills near Sougia, with a design-focused look, mountain views, a strong sense of seclusion, and rooms that often include private pools or hot-water plunge features.

Guests choose it for peace, privacy, and the feeling of switching off, not for being walking distance from a lively town center! More Information Here!

18. Renieris Hotel – Stalos

This is a high-quality accommodation with excellent personal service and a great breakfast with lots of choices!

I find it, is one of the stronger value choices outside Chania if you want sea views, a pool, and a family-run feel. It sits on a hill above Stalos Bay, so the view is excellent But it own position means access to the beach involves steps or an uphill return. If you do not mind that, it gives you a quieter base while still keeping Chania and the beach close. More Information Here!

19. Domes Noruz Chania, Autograph Collection- Adults Only – Kato Daratso

This is a very stylish, relaxed, and modern boutique hotel, with friendly and helpful staff. The beach is great, and the spa is highly recommended!

Delicious breakfast with a wide range of choices! The location isn’t particularly interesting, but you can walk quite easily to local restaurants. More Information Here!

20. Blue Horizon – Palaiochora

Blue Horizon is a very solid pick in Palaiochora if you want a simple beachfront stay that gets the practical things right.

The sea-facing balconies are beautiful and it is very easy to step straight into beach mode without needing the car again.

Another plus is the rooftop area, which adds a nice extra for breakfast or evening drinks rather than just serving as a place to sleep.. More Information Here!

21. Agarathos Rooms Kaliviani – Kaliviani, Kissamos

Excellent location in the countryside, very close to Kissamos and some of the best beaches in the area!

It is 11km away from breathtaking Balos, 49 km from Elafonisi, and 6 km from Fallasarna Beach. Mavros Molos beach in Kissamos is 10 minutes by car! It has a beautiful garden and swimming pool!

A short walk to the square, and I recommend Agarathos Taverna’s amazing home-cooked food right around the corner! More Information Here!

22. Naya – Kissamos

This was a pleasant surprise for us, as we wanted accommodation to discover the west part of Crete! And we weren’t disappointed!

It is a cozy small family hotel in a tranquil place, and it is nice for a family. The rooms are nice and clean, but the big plus is that it is located on the beach! You can enjoy your breakfast or coffee, or lunch a few meters away from the beach.

The beach is covered with pebbles, but in the sea, the bottom is rocky for the first meter, but then the bottom is sandy. Note that sometimes the beach can get quite windy. More Information Here
