  • Best Hotel in Ermoupoli Old Town: Hotel Ploes
  • Best Value hotel for money in Ermoupoli: Blue Harmony Hotel in Kini Beach
  • You can visit Syros by plane! But, note that it has not international connection to any other countries, only a direct connection with Athens.
  • If you go to Syros by ferry, I always use Ferryscanner to book the ferry tickets! They have done a fantastic job, and it is very user-friendly. Also, if you are thinking of island hopping, this is one of the best platforms that you can use!
  • You can find here our post for the best things to do on Syros island!
  • The best time to visit Syros Island is from May until October. The high season, of course, is July and August, which makes September (my favourite month) and June the best months.
  • Syros is a medium-sized island, and you will need to rent a car. But if you want to avoid this extra cost, Syros has a reasonably good Bus Network (KTEL) (More information here).

Which are the best areas to stay on Syros island?

Syros, a charming island in the Cyclades, offers several great areas to stay, each catering to different preferences

  1. Ermoupoli: Ermoupoli is vibrant and packed with neoclassical architecture, shops, cafés, and cultural sites. It’s ideal for travellers who enjoy bustling town life and want easy access to cafes, restaurants and nightlife.
  2. Ano Syros: This old settlement above Ermoupoli, offers a more traditional Greek experience with its narrow, winding streets and stunning views of the Aegean Sea. It’s quieter and perfect for those looking for a more relaxed atmosphere. Note that you might be more far away from the buzz of Ermoupoli and you most probably will need a car.
  3. Megas Gialos: If I want to stay close to a beach in Syros, most of the times I prefer to stay at Platis Gialos. It is a peaceful seaside area with a lovely beach, making it perfect spot for those looking to relax away from the busier centers.
  4. Galissas: This beach town is another popular area among families and those looking for a beach holiday. It has a well-organized sandy beach, several restaurants, and bars, and is fairly self-contained.
  5. Kini: For those who prefer a picturesque fishing village, Kini is lovely. It’s quieter than Galissas and has a beautiful beach, famous for its sunset views.
  6. Posidonia: This area features grand old mansions and beautiful gardens with good beaches nearby, like Agathopes.
