Hiking in Folegandros island!

Folegandros island is one of the most beautiful islands in Aegean with some amazing paths. There is a relatively extensive trail network with many hiking routes. We suggest to go the northern part of the island, just 5 km from the town, where is the Ano Meria, an sparsely populated settlement established by “themonies”, which are scattered stone cottages with outbuildings and orchard. In one of the Themonies you can find the unique Folklore Museum of Ano Meria furnished from 19th century. It includes cistern, cellar, bakery, barn, oil mill, threshing, vineyard and wine press – a complete representation of the life of a typical farm household. From Ano Meria you can go back to Chora, by the trail through Agios Georgios, Agia Paraskevi and Stavros.

Ano Meria (Stavros) – Agios Georgios – Agia Paraskevi – Stavros – Chora

Ano Meria (Taxiarhis) – Livadaki – Aspropounta Lighthouse – Ano Meria (Myloi).

This is one of our favourite routes in Folegandros island with duration approximately 2 hours. The trail begins from Taxiarhis and it ends in Myloi, Ano Meria. You will start from Ano Meria (Taxiarchis), then you will cross  Skiathitis area and direct to Livadaki, a sheltered bay with a small pebbly beach. After that you will reach a small path in the path that leads to the particularly picturesque Aspropounta Lighthouse (Faros). The main route continues along a footpath at the foot of Trahilos hill, and becomes a dirt road headed in a northerly direction. The last section of the route crosses the Petalakia area and passes above Tzanis gorge, terminating at Stavros church, right by the Myloi (windmills) in Ano Meria.

At Agios Nikolaos beach you can go only on foot or by boat!

Chora – Angali – Chora

This a relatively easy and short hike, leading you to the beaches of Fyra, Angali and maybe Agios Nikolaos – it’s up to you!
